Central Railwayâ€™s (CRâ€™s) Nagpur Division has developed innovative equipment by the staff of Accident Relief Train (ART) to control the COVID-19 Pandemic. They have developed a hands free automatic ultraviolet sanitisation box that has multifaceted use.
The box can be installed in the train and used to disinfect or sanitise masks, hand gloves, safety shoes, jackets, electronic equipment, laptop, smartphone, gadgets, office files, folders, important documents, currency notes, wallet, baggage, fruits, vegetable and food grains, fabric, leather, and many other items made up of metal, polymer, plastic, fabric, leather etc. is done in the box. The box can also be used in homes to disinfect vegetables and other regular items. Hands free automatic ultraviolet sanitisation box works on the principle of ultraviolet radiation of Type C. The radiation is of very special light rays having wavelength 254 Nanometer, or say 2537 Angstrom; frequency 1183.5 TeraHinges and energy intensity 250 Mili Jules per square centimeter.
The box has a capacity to destroy 99.9 percent bacteria, viruses, molds and other microorganisms within a fraction of second. The employees had designed number of equipment and innovations for emergency services. This includes use of Water Mist Fire Fighting System as disinfectant; automatic hands free water soap dispenser; full body disinfectant tunnel; automatic hand sanitiser dispenser etc. With entire world engaged in fight against COVID-19 pandemic ART team is designing several such equipment.
Hands free Automatic Ultraviolet Sanitisation Box has been designed by using waste material and other material of no use from other departments. A wooden box which was of no use has been converted into a box having mirrors which help converting the rays into ultraviolet rays. Two tubes of Phillips germicidal UV-C11 watt were used in the box with hands free sensor, electronic pre-set timer of 60 seconds; auto cut off switch, buzzer and limits which for security. The box is working on automatic as well as manual mode.
