A city businessman lost ₹6.96 lakh after cyber fraudsters tricked him into downloading a fake wedding invitation sent via WhatsApp.
The victim, Shubhamkumar Jamunaprasad Satnami (31), a resident of Jagdishnagar on Katol Road who runs a car-washing business, received a WhatsApp message from his brother’s account around midnight on July 12. The message contained an APK file titled “Wedding Invitation.”
After downloading the file and clicking “Allow,” the fraudsters gained remote access to his phone. The following day, Shubham received bank alerts showing that ₹6,96,160 had been transferred from his account through multiple online transactions.
He later filed a complaint, and the case was transferred from the Dhantoli Cyber Police to the Gittikhadan Police, who have registered a case and launched an investigation.
