The Election Commission of India has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Maharashtra, citing slow progress in door-to-door verification, form collection and digitisation, particularly in Nagpur district.
Under the revised order sent to the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will now have until August 8 to complete house-to-house voter verification, extended from the earlier deadline of July 29.
Nagpur district has 46,38,589 registered voters, of whom mapping has been completed for over 32.43 lakh, with the rest still pending. As of the latest figures, 68 per cent of enumeration forms had been distributed in Nagpur, while only 29.28 per cent had been digitised and submitted online — 13,58,016 forms digitised, with 8,388 voters submitting forms online.
The state election machinery had sought an extension from the Commission, citing the slow pace across Maharashtra; Karnataka received a similar extension.
Under the revised schedule, the draft voter list will now be published on August 17 instead of August 5, with objections and claims accepted till September 16. The final voter list will be published on October 19, 2026.
