Now citizens of Nagpur have to pay extra money to civic administration for water. The water department of NMC has submitted a proposal to increase the water tariff by five percent.The proposal if agreed will be applicable to slum dwellers as well. As per information, the citizens will have to pay 35 paise extra per unit and NMC will gain an additional revenue of Rs.10-13 crores from it.
The tariff will be increased for domestic use in 1-20, 21-30, 31-80 and above 80 units for domestic users. The hike proposed is between 35 paise to 1 rupee for domestic users. Institutional and commercial establishments will be charged more. The new tariff will be applicable once the proposal is passed by the standing committee and approved by the house. The civic authority is expecting to earn revenue of Rs.260 crore which includes the estimated Rs.13 crore from water tariff hike. For institutional users, this hike will be in three parts. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the increase in water tariff will be another burden for the people.
