Arena Grand Master (AGM) R Shiva Subramanian emerged winner in the first edition of NDCA Online Weekend Rapid Chess Tournament , which concluded on the platform of lichess on Sunday.
Shiva won the eight-round, two-day championship organized by Nagpur District Chess Association (NDCA) collecting seven points. As per the standings available on the server, Shiva was followed by Sumedh Ramteke at 6.5 points and Kaustav Barat with six points.
Shiva lost his seventh round tie to Sumedh Ramteke from a clear winning position. Despite the defeat, Shiva played with a positive mindset and won his final round against Kaustav Barat.
On the second board, however, Sumedh was forced to split the point with Rahul Shamkuwar giving way for Shiva to win the tournament by just half point. Had Sumedh won the game, he could have pocketed the crown with a better tie-break score.
On the second day, Shiva continued his winning momentum by recording fluent victories over Sanskar Gaigore and Saksham Singh. After losing the penultimate game, Shiva fought his way back with a 22-move victory over experienced Barat.
