An Air India Express Flight No IX 1344 from Dubai to Calicut skidded off the runway fell down into the valley after landing at Runway 10 of Karipur Airport and broke down in two pieces. The flight was part of Vande Bharat Mission and was bringing back stranded Indian citizens.
There are 174 passengers, 10 infants, 2 pilots & 5 cabin crew onboard the aircraft informed Rajeev Jain, Additional DG Media, Civil Aviation Ministry. Visibility was 2000 meter at the time of landing. As per initial reports, rescue operations are on and passengers are being taken to hospital.
Teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were rushed to Karipur Airport. Have instructed Police and Fire Force to take urgent action in the wake of the plane crash at the Kozhikode International airport (CCJ) in Karipur. Have also directed the officials to make necessary arrangements for rescue and medical support said Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan.
The early report suggests that two people are feared to be dead in which Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe pilot of the plane died in Air India Express plane crash as per official sources. The rescue operation is underway. More details are awaited.
