The civic administration of the city and Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited recently organised an event on Thursday morning under the India Cycles for Change Challenge initiative. The purpose of the initiative is to encourage the citizens of the city to ride bicycles and through this it was decided to make Nagpur the ‘Bicycle Capital’ of India.
The programme has been started by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Central Government. Out of 100 Smart Cities across the country, 95 cities have participated in the union government’s initiative, including Nagpur. In-house by lane preparation, surveying and various events will be organised for safe cycling till October. After October, 11 cities will be selected by the Central government for the second round and prize of Rs.1 crore will be awarded.
