The auto industry has seen a downfall in the last 5 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown which was imposed in the country since March 24.
This has also affected the automobile industries as well in the city as the registration of heavy vehicles, mini-buses, cars, and two-wheelers has gone down during the lockdown.
The total number of vehicles registered from April to July 2019 in Nagpur (City) Region was 31,638 vehicles while the figure has slumped to only 7,316 during the corresponding period this year.
The total registration for vehicles in Nagpur city was 7,840 last year out of which 5,285 were two-wheelers/mopeds, whereas the total registration in Nagpur city is just 1,555 vehicles this year.
The purchasing capacity of the people has gone down due to the closure of factories rendering skilled workers, migrants, and others jobless.
The registration figure was 5,285 in Nagpur city, 14,383 in Nagpur (East), and 4,250 in the Wardha district during the corresponding period last year.
As many as 612 cars were registered in the city, 828 in Nagpur (East), and 155 in Wardha district (total 1,595) during the same period this year, as against 4,568 cars registered last year. Only 15 autorickshaws were registered with RTO Nagpur city this year during this period as against 165 from April to July 2019. The registration figure for autorickshaws in Nagpur city, Nagpur (East), and Wardha are 134 this year as against 1,976 during the same period last year.
Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) an apex national body representing all major vehicle & vehicular engine manufacturers in India released the Automobile Industry Sales Figures for July 2020 recently.
A total of 1,715,514 vehicles, including Passenger, Three-wheelers, Two-wheelers & Quadricycle were produced in July’20, as against 2,428,518 in July’19, witnessing a decline of 29.36%.
Total exports of Passenger Vehicles, Three-wheelers, and Two-wheelers witnessed a decrease of 43.83%, 50.65%, and 40.97% respectively in July’20, as compared to July’19.
Two-wheelers and Three-wheelers saw a dip in sales by 15.24% and 77.16% respectively in July’20, as compared to July’19.
Sales of Passenger Vehicles witnessed a dip of 3.86% in July’20, as compared to July’19.
