Akola: After initial increase in COVID-19 cases in May, June and July, the stringent measures taken by the Akola administration are showing good results. During last 21 days, the rate of increase in positive patients has dropped to 4.99 percent in August as compared to 18 percent in June.
In fact, this positive result is being hailed as the ‘Akola Pattern’ now. The district launched RTPCR andRapidAntigenTests (RATs) on large scale in April. The focus was on contact tracing and conducting tests of high risk and low risk contacts and the senior citizens.
After preparing lists of these people their tests were conducted. These measures helped in controlling the spread of the disease. District Civil Surgeon Dr Rajkumar Chavan informed that health Administration has adopted 3-T formula of Tracing, Tests and Treatment which has helped achieve initial success in curtailing the spread of the disease. What is a matter further relief is that the recovery rate is constantly improving.
The figure of corona positive patients in Akola district has touched 3,441. However, 85.46 percent of them ie, 2,941 patients have successfully overcome the disease and have already been given discharge. Presently, only 357 patients (10.37%) are undergoing treatment in COVID care centres. However, the matter of concern is the death toll which stands at 143. It is still a great challenge before the health machinery to check the rising deaths due to the disease. Meanwhile, Health administration has called on people to adhere to safety and preventive measures like regular washing of hands, regular use of masks, avoiding congested public places and following the norm of physical distancing.
