Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has launched a camper van to rejuvenate the tourism in state in post-lockdown. The van has several unique features including personal terrace and will be a ‘home on wheels’. COVID-19 pandemic has affected tourism industry very hard. Though travel restrictions have been lifted gradually, safety issues still weigh heavily on public mind. Taking cognisance of this and to revive tourism, which is a source of revenue for State Government, MTDC has come up with this idea.
Camper van provides an opportunity to tourists to take care of their health. Those taking on rent the camper van need not book a hotel for stay. There is no risk of infection, no issue of social distancing, and no travel hassles.
The van was launched in a small function held in Mumbai on Sunday. The camper van also carried Waste Disposal System to handle waste in socially responsible manner, thereby contributing to sanitation and Clean India Mission. The tourists get a complete customised travel hamper with comfort, privacy and safety. A tourist can either rent a camper van or invest in one. The van has space enough for a small family or group. There is space for luggage, from clothes to camping equipment. Besides, it has a small kitchen, a mini-bedroom, living room, basic amenities and terrace. As per MTDC, the ‘Motohom’ experience offers time-saving, cost effective, ready-to-go unique travel experience’ while maintaining social-distancing and sanitation.
