After the outbreak of pandemic, the country is witnessing large scale of unemployment and the Union Government in view of the situation has announced the Unlock-4 on September 2 in which massive relaxations were granted to many sectors of the economy. While announcing Unlock-4 the government started giving relaxation in two slabs. First slab started on September 7 while the second slab commenced on September 21.In the second slab the Union Government had announced certain relaxations to cultural sector for organisation and organisation and presentation of cultural programmes. However, in Nagpur no such relaxation has been granted.
The reason cited for not giving such relaxation is the increasing number of Covid-19 positive cases in city. In Nagpur as many as 1500 to 2000 are diagnosed with Covid-19 infection daily. As the cultural activities have come to halt for the past six months, the hopes of artistes that they would get work in near future have been collapsed. The point to be noted here is that Central Government has granted permission for staging shows in open air artistes of Maharashtra. And their problem is compounded by lack of open air theatre in Nagpur. This condition is really disappointing for the amateur and professional artists as they have to wait for few more months to re-open this sector. Hence they urged the government take a positive decision to a find a solution for their problems.
