The Supreme Court on today will hear a case related to refund of air tickets of the passengers whose flights were cancelled during the lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As per information, the airlines kept the money in credit shell instead of refunding it.Due to this; passengers filed a PIL in the apex court.
The petition was heard before the division bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan, Justice R.Subash Reddy and Justice M.R.Shah.On behalf of the Union Government Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted an affidavit about 15 days ago in the court.Harihar Pandey of Nagpur from among the passengers whose money has been stuck in the credit shell.Pandey had made the booking of 50 passengers spending Rs.1.35 lakh by a GoAir flight. He said that the decision of the credit shell is one sided and this is illegal. In this regard, he wrote a letter to President and Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).The PMO had sent letters to directorate general of civil aviation and central secretariat sent letter to aviation ministry. He has also written letter to 200 MPs to consider the interest of passengers instead of airlines.
