A young man attempted to kidnap two sisters by threatening them with a toy gun in the Dharampeth area of Ambazari police station on Saturday evening. The kidnapper fled the spot, leaving his motorcycle abandoned after the girls raised an alarm. He later surrendered at Dhantoli police.
The arrested accused was identified as Roshan Vinod Khandekar (24), a resident of Kalamna. A police officer said that the daughters of a merchant came to a garment shop in Dharampeth. After buying clothes from the shop, both of them sat in their car. Within a minute, Roshan entered the car and sat on the back seat. When the girls asked him to get out of the car, he took out a pistol and threatened the girls. After seeing the gun, the girls started shouting loudly. As a result, Khandekar became scared and fled from the car.
Teams of Crime Branch reached the spot. After checking footage of CCTV cameras installed on the premises of the shop, the police learned that Khandekar came on a motorcycle. On the basis of the vehicle number, they tracked Rosha’s father.
Later, Roshan surrendered himself confessing his crime. He told the police that he was under pressure due to a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh. The money-lenders were threatening him. Hence, he decided to extort ransom.
