Maintaining his outstanding run of success in the last couple of months, Jay Sawalakhe reigned supreme in the first Vidarbha-level Online Chess tournament, conducted by Amravati Chess Academy through the platform of ‘Lichess.org’ recently. The tourney was held under the auspices of Amravati District Chess Association.
Upcoming city player Jay of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Shri Krishna Nagar, won the title with nine points as he remained undefeated. Jay was followed by Aahana Pachigar from Amravati, who scored eight points. The third spot went to Vedant Gulhane of Amravati with 6.5 points.
Best female player prizes were won by Lakshita Rathod, Shanya Shelkar and Vidhi Mishrilotkar of Nagpur. Majority of the prizes were won by the players from Orange City.
In all, 40 players from Amravati, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Yavtamal, Wardha, Buldhana, Akola and Nagpur participated in the tournament. Total nine rounds were played and the time control of three minutes plus three seconds increment was given to each player. This tournament was conducted under the supervision of IA Deepak Chavan, FA Umesh Panbude and NI Ninad Saraf.
