The Maharashtra Forest Department is celebrating ‘Bird Week’ from November 5 to12.The‘BirdWeek’ will take place to mark the birthday of legendary personalities Maruti Chitampalli and Salim Ali, respectively. Maruti Chitampalli is well known wildlife litteratuer and Padma Bhushan Salim Ali was the legendary avian scientist. Nagpur Forest Division has planned to celebrate the same in association with Bombay Natural History Society, Heritage conservation Society and Bird of Vidarbha.
Maharashtra houses 43.67per cent of total Indian avifauna. Focus of the event would be to reveal the rich vain diversity of the Nagpur Forest Division in general and the Ambazari Biodiversity Park in particular. Out of the 1,349 bird species found in the country, approximately270specieswhichis1/5th of the total country’s avian biodiversity is found in the Ambazari Biodiversity Park as per the bird online platform. The aim of the Bird Week is to create awareness about the rich biodiversity of birds in Nagpur Forest Division among children, youth and general public. The inauguration of the ‘Bird Week’ will take place at Ambazari Biodiversity Park at 8.30am.Bird watching will be held at the park and Gorewada Lake during this celebration. An online photography competition will be organized to mark the celebration.
