Good news for the students, finally after a long wait the University Grants Commission has accepted the proposal regarding the autonomous status of the institution. As per information, In December a team of UGC is going to visit the institution. In view of this, a phase of preparations has commenced in the Government Institute of Science. Besides UGC, one representative each is appointed by Nagpur University and the State Government. The university has sent the name of its representative, while name of no person has been sent by the State Government as of now.
The institute has asked the government to finalise who will be its representative when the UGC team arrives. The name of the representative will be decided by the government. Also the name will be sent to UGC. The point to be noted here efforts have been made for the last 22 years to get autonomy from the institution. The proposal was pending in the University for many years. In 2008, the proposal was approved by the University. But no further action could be taken on this. Last year, the institution tried again after getting an A-grade from NAC. And this time officials hope a positive result in this regard.
