Washim: Diwali festival is just few days away and considering COVID-19 pandemic this year the festival should be celebrated with simplicity as the infection is still prevelant in the State, appealed Collector Shanmugrajan S to people of the district.
From the last seven months every religious festival and other celebrations have been a low-key affair in a bid to curb the spread of the virus. In such circumstances where the virus is still present between us, taking thinkgs lightly may put us into trouble.
He urged the citizens to take all the precuation necessary to keep coronavirus infection away from them and their loved ones.
Stating that religious places in the State that were closed due to COVID infection have not yet reopened, Shanmugrajan
further requested people to make sure that the Diwali celebrations are limited to domestic events. Citizens, especially senior citizens and children, should avoid leaving house during the festival period. Citizens should also avoid crowds and large gatherings, wear masks and observe social distancing , so that corona infection does not increase.
Also citizen should take care of the air pollution caused due to the firecrackers as it could worsen the COVID situation, therefore its use should be limited.
On the contrary, priority should be given to organising health activities, blood donation camps and cultural programmes and raising awareness about diseases like corona, malaria anddengue etc. and their preventive measuresas well as hygiene, Shanmugrajan appealed.
