Nagpur recorded 45.6 mm of rainfall on Monday till 8:30 pm, as per data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Since the beginning of the monsoon season, the district has received a total of 95.1 mm of rain till June 29—about 57.2% of the season’s average for this period. While a few surrounding districts have recorded higher rainfall, the figures suggest a promising start. Notably, over 70% of this season’s rain has fallen in just the last 12 days.
Across the Nagpur division, the average rainfall stands at 132.1 mm. Gadchiroli tops the chart with 215.8 mm—exceeding its seasonal average by 2.3%. Wardha (123.9 mm), Bhandara (95.7 mm), Gondia (114.7 mm), and Chandrapur (156.1 mm) have also seen substantial rainfall.
Nagpur typically receives between 1000 mm and 1200 mm of rain annually, with July and August being the wettest months. The recent showers have enabled farmers to begin sowing, although continued rainfall will be crucial for crop health.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a forecast for heavy to very heavy rain from July 1 to July 6. Residents are advised to remain cautious due to possible water-logging and slippery roads. Farmers have also been urged to ensure proper drainage in their fields to prevent water damage to crops.
