Rail passengers travelling between Nagpur and Delhi are facing unusually long journeys after a series of route diversions added nearly 10 to 12 hours to travel time on the busy Chennai-Delhi Grand Trunk corridor.
The disruption follows ongoing yard remodelling work at Lalitpur railway station under the Jhansi Division, for which traffic blocks have been scheduled from July 13 to July 20. With normal operations suspended on sections of the route, several long-distance trains have been diverted through alternate corridors, resulting in extended travel durations and changes in arrival and departure timings at multiple stations.
Among the affected trains passing through the Nagpur Railway Division are 12721 Dakshin Express, 18238 Chhattisgarh Express and 12649 Sampark Kranti Express, besides several other services operated by different railway zones. The diversions have particularly impacted passengers travelling to or from Lalitpur, Jhansi, Gwalior and Agra, while commuters using the Chennai-Delhi stretch of the GT route are also experiencing significant delays.
Railway authorities said a number of trains are being rerouted from Bina through Ashoknagar, Sawai, Jajanpatti and Mathura before proceeding towards Delhi. Some services originating from or passing through Bhopal are operating via Shajapur Road, Nand, Kota, Bayana and Mathura Junction before reaching Hazrat Nizamuddin station in Delhi.
Officials have also indicated that certain trains belonging to other railway divisions are being short-terminated due to operational constraints arising from the ongoing works. Passengers have been advised to verify the latest running status and revised schedules of their trains before commencing their journey, as arrival and departure timings at regular stations may change because of the diversions.
