The United States of America broke another record for the number of cases detected in a single day. The US recorded 2,01,961 COVID cases and 1,535 deaths on Wednesday.
With this total COVID tally reached to 1,02,38,243 and the number of deaths in the country reached to 2,39,588. US is detecting over 1,00,000 COVID cases in the country continuously for a week.
The hospitalization in the country due to the pandemic has also hit an all-time high as in the last 24 hours over 60,000 people were hospitalized.
Soon to be Ex-President Donald Trump has repeatedly mocked people for wearing masks and claimed the virus would go away by itself. But his opponent and soon to be President Joe Biden has vowed to take a more proactive approach, telling his countrymen that face coverings are the single best way to get the virus under control.
The only silver linning in all this is that US pharma giant Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech announced on Monday that their vaccine candidate was 90 percent effective in preventing COVID, marking a major breakthrough in the search for a vaccine.
