“Flowers don’t worry about how they are going to bloom. They are just open up and turn toward the light and that makes them beautifulâ€.
The Botany department of Hislop College hosts the 16th traditional annual flower show at the college premises to add some blooming joy to the prosaic mood of the orange city. The flower show will take place only for two days that is on 12th and 13th December from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The occasion is inaugurated by NMC Corporator Nishant Gandhi.
Since its inception in 2003, the show has grown in stature and reached greater heights facing various challenges from nature.
Chrysanthamun (Sewanti) is the signature plant but to showcase flower diversity other seasonal plants are also concentrated in the flower show.
Environmental awareness and appreciation for the beauty of nature in the young and blossoming nature at the gloomy mindset of the pandemic is the mandate of the effort.
Young artists from various city schools are taking part in the exravaganza. The number of plants for display is around 10,000. The program at Hislop has also introduced a training module.
The annual event is an outcome of hardwork put in by the Botany department faculty members – Dr Mousami Bhowal, Parama Majumdar, Dr Mayank Varun, Dr. Shivani Dongarwar, Nikita Phule and the long hours devoted by the garden staff.
