Maintaining his season’s outstanding run, Shiva Iyer emerged champion in the Kusumtai Sahare Memorial Nagpur District Open Online Blitz Chess tournament here on Monday. The one-day tourney was organised through the platform of “Lichess.org”.
Displaying an excellent form, Shiva remained undefeated in the meet and won the title with perfect nine points. Shiya outwitted Sumedh Ramteke in the ninth and final round to take his points tally to nine. Shiva was followed by Dishank Bajaj, who ended up with 8 points. Dishank prevailed over Chetan Deodhagale in the last round. Priyanshu Patil, who outclassed Ayush Ramteke in the ninth round, finished third with 7 points to his credit.
In all, 43 players participated in the nine-round tournament. Top 15 players, best veteran and top three girls received cash prizes. Total prize money was Rs 5,000. The tournament was conducted under the supervision of IA Pravin Pantawane and FA Umesh Panbude.
