Orange City’s Dr Sharad Suryawanshi was unanimously elected as senior joint secretary of the Maharashtra Athletics Association (MAA) during the election held at Pune.
Mumbai’s Adille Sumariwalla, who is also the president of the Indian Athletics Federation, will continue as the president for one more term (2020-2024). Mumbai’s Satish Uchil will also be retained as secretary.
The MAA election became interesting as another faction — Maharashtra Amateur Athletics Association — led by Pune’s Umesh Jadhav had already announced their body two days ago and also submitted a changed report in Pune charity office.
It will be interesting to see which faction will get the recognition from the charity commissioner’s office. As per press release issued by MAA, the elections were conducted by election officer Sunil Shinde. Olympian Lalita Babar, Rachita Mistry, Anand Menezis, Homiar Mistry and Gurbank Kaur were given some important responsibilities.
IAF representative Madhukant Pathak and general secretary of Maharashtra Olympic Association Balasaheb Landge were the observers for the elections.
