An attempt to provide safe drinking water to the 25 lakh plus population of the city, the water department of civic administration collects around 300 water samples daily from all the zones and is sent to state and central laboratories for inspection. The Pench project supplies 640 to 650 MLD of water per day to the city of Nagpur with allocation of 150 liters of water per person. Water supply has to be done by tanker in areas where there is no water pipeline near city.
A GPS system has been installed to control the tankers. Water demand is higher in summer. So in view of this, 63 water tanks have been constructed to supply water to all areas.23 new water tanks will be built under Amrut Yojana. Five water purification centres have been set up to provide clean water to the citizens. The bacteria and contaminants are inspected and in case of any complaint of contaminated water supply by the citizens, water samples are sent for inspection at the zonal level.
