Orange City’s ace long distance runner Prachi Godbole reigned supreme in the Bundelkhand 30-km Marathon on Tuesday.
The marathon was organised at Chhattarpur in Madhya Pradesh as part of the National Youth Day.
A member of Track Star Athletics Club, Prachi clinched the gold medal in the national-level marathon event, which was organised by Pandit Ganesh Prasad Mishra Seva Nyas. Prachi took an early lead and maintained it throughout the race with her commanding pace and clever tactics. The youngster clocked an hour, 54 minutes and 32 seconds to claim the first position.
Allahabad’s Neeta Patle, who needed 2 hours and six minutes, had to be satisfied with the runner-up spot. The bronze medal was secured by Sheelu Yadav of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.
It was a maiden national-level title for Prachi, who trains under Ravindra Tong at the Reshimbagh ground.
The Nagpur District Athletics Association (NDAA) secretary Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, NDAA deputy chairman Gurudev Nagrale, treasurer Sanjay Chaudhari, Umesh Naidu, Shekhar Suryawanshi, Ramchandra Wani, Archana Kottewar, Banty Prasad Yadav, Vivekand Singh and Anil Bhore congratulated Prachi for her first major triumph.
