The Central Zoo Authority (Delhi) has approved the proposed layout plan of Maharajbagh Zoo. As per information, it takes 9 years to approve the plan. Due to this the expenditure of proposed development work of the zoo has also increased. As per the information, earlier it was expected to cost Rs.20 crore for the development work. Under this, decade old cage, enclosure was to be changed and other construction work were to be done. After this, a master plan was prepared in 2011 and was sent to Delhi office for approval but CZA returned the plan many times citing improvement in the plan. After that improved master plan was sent to CZA in the year 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2016 but CZA did not approve this.
And in February 2018, the Maharajbagh zoo sent another layout plan with necessary improvement for approval.Meanwhile; CZA issued a notice to cancel the affiliation of the Maharajbagh Zoo for failing to do the necessary improvement. During the hearing in Delhi in May 2018, the zoo management informed the authority about the difficulty in getting the development fund without the plan approval. Now the Maharajbagh Zoo incharge Dr.Sunil Bawaskar said that zoo layout plan has been approved. Due to this proposal for necessary fund for development work has been sent to government. As per the sources, the estimated cost of the development work was Rs.20 crore in 2011.However, after 9 years, the construction cost will increase under the proposed plan.
