Ahead of civic polls, Standing Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) decided not to change the taxation structure for citizens. The administration had listed the issue of fixation of property tax and tree tax on the agenda of Tuesday’s meeting. Though at its meeting held in January last year, Standing Committee had ratified its decision not to jack-up the tax rates, the proposal could not be taken-up in the meeting of House could not be convened owing to outbreak of pandemic.
The administration in its note sheet stated that nod of Standing Committee is necessary before February 20, 2021, for fixation of property tax and tree tax, for the next financial year. The administration also attached for reference the tax structure finalised by Amravati, Nasik, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, for buildings and properties in their jurisdiction. It also mentioned that State Government has not proposed any hike in Education, Employment Guarantee cess or for multi-storeyed buildings. So for a while citizens might escape the inflation as NMC has decided to hold tax rates, post-election next year one cannot be sure as to what might befall the voters.
