Mahavitaran, the power distribution utility has taken the decision to act tough against power bill defaulters amid agitation that their power connection be not snapped. As per information, so far in Nagpur Urban division, power connections of more than 200 defaulters have been cut. The point to be noted here is that dues outstanding against power consumers have mounted up to Rs.71,506 crore.
Up to December-2020,in Nagpur urban circle including Nagpur city, Hingna and Butibori dues outstanding against household customers stood at Rs.247.35 crore, that against commercial users at Rs.49.79 crore and against industrial consumers at Rs.28.05 crore. As the deadline given by the MSEDCL, for not snapping power connections due to Covid-19 pandemic expired on December 31 last year, the power distribution utility issued 15-day notice to cut power connections. After the period was over, it commenced action from Monday.
