On February 8th and 9th 2021, a tiger and a tigress of age 4-5 years and 2-3 years were found dead in Wardha and Chandrapur District respectively. With this, the total number of Tiger Deaths reached 8 within the last 41 days, i.e. in the year 2021.
According to the forest officials, the tigress may have died due to starvation as the stomach of the tigress was found empty. Meanwhile, the death of the tiger on Tuesday was because of territorial fighting.
Tuesday’s death was reported from Moharli buffer range of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR), where the tiger death at TATR on Tuesday wasn’t attributed to any particular reason but the animal’s body bore several external injuries, according to a press note issued by TATR Field Director Jitendra Ramgaokar. Officials said the death was possibly caused by territorial fighting.
According to the press note “The incident of the territorial fight has been corroborated by villagers and members of the primary the rescue team of Arjuni village, who were monitoring the area.â€
In the month of January 6 tiger deaths were reported and the death of these two tigers on Monday and Tuesday added up to the tally and the total number of tiger deaths count up to 8.
