City athlete Nikita Raut bagged the bronze medal in the 55th National Cross Country Championship at Chandigarh on Sunday. She achieved the feat even after her mother’s sad demise five days back. In 10 kilometre race she clocked 37 minutes and 12.71 seconds to finish third in the 10-km race.
Nashik’s Komal Jagdale emerged winner with a timing of 37 minutes and 11.40 seconds Haryana’s Sonika of Haryana pocketed silver.
In the same category, another city’s international athlete Prajakta Godbole disappointed and finished 14th. Prajakta’s cousin Prachi Godbole placed a lowly 25th.Overall, Maharashtra eves did well and claimed the bronze medal in the team championship with 34 points.
Maharashtra emerged as overall general champions in the Under-20 girls’ category with a sterling performance.Nagpur District Athletics Association (NDAA) secretary Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, NDAA president Gurudeo Nagrale, corporator Nagesh Sahare, SJ Anthony, Umesh Naidu, Ramchandra Wani, and others have congratulated the athletes for their outstanding performance in Chandigarh.
