The construction work for Metro’s parking plaza in front of Futala Lake is facing innumerable difficulties as the water has seeping into three to four pits dug for construction work in this area. As per information, an attempt to drain the water using pumps has failed, because the water level in these pits is not decreasing. This is creating big trouble to complete the work. Apart from this, experts expressed fear that the natural ground water duct of the lake is damaged due to these machines.Hence, with the fear of Futala Lake going dry looming, it was demanded that a study be conducted by any research institution.
The point to be noted here is that numerous trees in this area were chopped for construction work. This may also had some impact on the lake.Futala lake has been damaged in many places. A part of the security wall of the lake has collapsed from Vayusena Nagar.The wall is cracked in another part as well. The water level is decreasing.However; the administration is not taking the needful measures to protect one of the historical lakes in the city. They are not doing any survey or structural audit of the lake. It is really a serious concern which needs a solution soon.
