After Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited(MSEDCL) failed to provide the power meters to customers, the district is facing acute shortage of the power meters.Due to this, the customers have forced to bring the power meters from outside and costing them double. As per information,a single phase meter that generally costs Rs.850 is being brought at Rs.1800.Similarly,customers are compelled to buy three phase meter costing Rs.1520 at Rs.3500.From the last four months, the situation of Nagpur is also the same.As per the details, around 600 meters are needed every month in the state.
Due to the shortage,MSEDCL has not been providing customers with the required quantity.Besides this,MSEDCL is asking the customers to buy meter from outside in case of emergency. And the power meters are being sold at double rates in themarket. It is mandatory for customers to do testing of three phase meters brought from outside. However,it is not mandatory to do testing of single phase meter.MSEDCL in its order has made it clear that Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has permitted to purchase meters from outside. For this, four companies for purchasing of single phase meters and three companies for purchasing 3-phase meters have been given permission.MSEDCL last week had received 6000 meters for the district. However, considering the demand, it is not sufficient.
