Nagpur experiences steep hike in COVID positive percentage in a day

Sudden rise in COVID 19 positive cases compared to the tests conducted, the situation again appears to be going out of control. For the last two weeks the average positive cases were 22 to 26 per cent of the total number of tests conducted every day. The report of Tuesday, however, has changed this equation.

Nagpur district has shown 42 per cent positive cases against the number of tests conducted. Similar rise has also been reported from all the districts in Nagpur Division, except Bhandara.

The percentage of positive cases compared to the tests conducted was 26.3 on March 29, 26.6 on March 28 and 22.3 on March 22. It was 21.66 per cent on March 24.

The overall percentage since the beginning in Nagpur district has been calculated at 13.89. Initially the tests were carried out at government hospitals only. Later permission was granted to some private laboratories. With rise in number of tests conducted every day, the number of positive cases were also high. However, for the last month,  the number of positive cases are increasing. At the same time during last week the number of deaths have also increased.

Sudden spike in this percentage reported on Tuesday, came as a shock for the people. The percentage in Chandrapur is 39.8,  in Gondia – 36.1. Wardha – 14.4, Gadchiroli – 9.4 and Bhandara 5.8.

This steep hike may be assigned to the Holi festival, when people gather at various places without caring for the rule of using mask, sanitizer and maintaining social distancing.
