Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has again postponed its convocation planned to confer LLD degree upon Chief Justice of India Sharad Bobde, who is also an alumnus of the University. The special convocation was to be held on April 11. At the same time, the University has postponed the regular 108th convocation scheduled for April 23.
Both the convocations had to be postponed because of lockdown imposed by the State Government, in view of growing number of Corona positive cases in Nagpur.
The University Registrar Dr Anil Hirekhan, through a notification, has informed that the two convocations stands deferred as of now. Fresh dates may be announced later.
It was a prestige for the university to honour its former student, who rose to become Chief Justice of India. The University has a rich history of producing students like former Vice-President Mohammad Hidayatullah, former Prime Minister P V Narsimha Rao. It has also distinction of honouring Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar with honorary D Litt. The regular convocation can be held on-line, like the other universities did. But honouring Bobde through on-line convocation will not suit to his and university’s reputation.
