Efforts to create an alternative route for Covid-19 patients at Divisional Railways Hospital faced outrage by residents of Mohan Nagar.
The authorities of Central Railway’s division faced resistance from locals in Mohan Nagar while trying to build a new entrance through colony road for Divisional Railway Hospital.
This new entrance was to be build so as to ease the congestion and come up with an alternative route for Covid-19 patients.
Currently, the entry to the hospital is through Kingsway which is also common for employees working in Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) offices of Central Railway (CR) and South Eastern Central Railway (SECR).
Another problem with the existing entrance is that vehicles are parked by the road leading to the hospital and hence very short space remains for movement to the hospital. Hence an option to create an alternative route was discussed to make an opening on Mohan Nagar road, which is adjacent to the compound wall of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRMs) office campus.
Taking cognizance of the same, today Engineering Department team went to create an opening in the existing wall to make way for the erection of a gate. The site is just adjacent to the parking of the railway hospital and the entrance would walk away there by avoiding the circuitous and congested route. However, some locals got a hint of the action to be taken and they gathered in small numbers and opposed the move saying it will put them to risk as COVID-19 positive patients movement would take place 24×7.
A few trees would also be needed to be chopped to make way for the new entrance to the DRM office campus and people sought to know about NOC from Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for the same. A team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) tried to deal with the situation and later cops from Sadar police station also reached the spot and after discussion, the plan was abandoned for the day.
Railway officials said they would take proper permission from NMC and then go ahead with the plan to open a new entrance to railway premises. The new entrance would ease a lot of difficulties even for railways, apart from giving direct access to railway hospital, a lot of employees even today they move the wrong side while heading towards Sadar and other areas. This results in daily jams during evening hours on the narrow Kingsway where work is on to extend the ramp by building a small fly-over till Kasturchand Park end.
