Three separate barracks are being used to isolate new prisoners and undertrials in Nagpur Central Jail. The step has been taken as eight prisoners and a staff member were found infected with Corona virus.
Jail Superintendent Anup Kumre stated that the new prisoners are kept quarantined for 14 days, before they are allowed to mix with others.
The infected patients are taken to Government Medical College and Hospital and then follow-up treatment is given by three doctors deputed at the prison.
The reason for Corona virus entering the jail may be new prisoners or staff coming on duty from various parts of the city.
Kumre said that adequate care is being taken, as isolation of prisoners can pose difficulty, if the infection transmits to others.
