A move to manage shortage of beds, civic administration has readied Law College and Government Polytechnic as make shift Dedicated Covid Hospital (DCH) with 240 beds. During the fortnight, the surge in cases has put people of all strata in pressure and due to lack of beds; people are dying for want of timely medical help. Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishna B has authorised starting of two additional treatment centres from Saturday.
At Law College, about 160 beds would be available and at Government Polytechnic, another 80 beds. NMC has already recruited medical, nursing and paramedic staff.Besides, the civic body would also provide meals to admitted patients at the hospitals. Already, at MLAHostelinCivil Lines, 225 beds are available for primary treatmenttoCOVID-19 positivepatients.Also, about 155 beds are at Panchpaoli and 85 bedsat VNIT Hostel.These three centres are for people who are advisedisolationanddonothave symptoms associated with COVID-19. In case any patient here needs hospitalisation, then NMC ambulance is ready to carry them to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), IGGMCH or any other Government-run facility. Meanwhile, NMC is readying the Isolation Hospital and Panchpaoli Maternity Hospital for treating patients needing oxygen due to high infection of COVID-19.An oxygen plant from a unit in MIDC was procured for time being by NMC and installed the same at Isolation Hospital with help of Lions Club who provided funds forthe same. Similarly, an oxygen plant is also being commissioned at Panchpaoli Maternity Home.
