The State Government will now be able to buy Serum Institutes of India’s Covishield vaccine at Rs 300 informed CEO Adar Poonawalla tweeted today, calling it a “philanthropic gesture”.
“As a philanthropic gesture on behalf of Serum Institute India, I hereby reduce the price to the states from Rs.400 to Rs.300 per dose, effective immediately; this will save thousands of crores of state funds going forward. This will enable more vaccinations and save countless lives†Poonawalla tweeted.
Earlier Serum Institute of India (SII) announced that the prices of the Covishield vaccine will be Rs 400 per dose for state governments and Rs 600 per dose for private hospitals.
The Phase 3 of vaccination drive will begin from May 1 for everyone above 18 years of age will be eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19 from May 1. The Government of Maharashtra on Wednesday announced that such vaccines will be given free of cost to all the citizens of Maharashtra aged between 18-44 years.
