In a ghastly incident, a male elephant named Gajraj, located in elephant camp at Botezari in core area of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR), killed Chief Accountant at TATR office on Thursday. According to CCF of TATR Dr Jitendra Ramgaonkar, the male elephant became suddenly aggressive on Thursday evening. Unaware of this fact; ACF Kolsa Kurkarni and Chief Accountant at TATR office Pramod Gaurkar were moving in the same area.
Suddenly their vehicle got stuck in mud. They noticed the elephant running towards them and they left the vehicle and ran for their life. But the jumbo attacked the two and killed Pramod Gaurkar, Chief Accountant at TATR. Kulkarni managed to escape to safety. Rapid response team, veterinarians and officers of TATR rushed to the spot and operation to tranquilize and restrain the elephant is underway. Villages in the core area have been alerted about the elephant moving in the area and all efforts are being made to capture it.
