Mucormycosis is a rare but potentially fatal fungal infection. The Government of India has declared Mucormycosis as an Epidemic and a notifiable disease. Hence, it is of outmost importance to spread awareness about Mucormycosis in all health care workers.
The Department of ENT at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur, in association with Association of Otolaryngologists of India-Vidarbha Chapter had organized a webinar on “COVID Associated Mucormycosis†on 12th June 2021. It was focused at updating medical fraternity about importance of early identification, surgical management and medical management of COVID Associated Mucormycosis.
This consisted of lectures followed by interactive question and answer session to give clear guidelines while tackling practical problems in managing COVID Associated Mucormycosis.
The Key note speaker was Dr Nitin M Nagarkar, Director and CEO, AIIMS Raipur. The other speakers were Dr Jeevan Vedi, Head of ENT department at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College, Nagpur and Dr Shailesh Kothalkar, ENT Surgeon at Seven Star Hospital, Nagpur. The welcome speech was given by Maj Gen (Dr) Vibha Dutta, SM, Director and CEO, AIIMS Nagpur.
The guest speakers were introduced by Dr Manish Shrigiriwar, Officiating Medical Superintendent, AIIMS Nagpur. Dr Shrikrishna B H, Additional Professor of ENT department, AIIMS Nagpur delivered lecture on COVID Associated Mucormycosis-introduction, pathogenesis and clinical features. Dr Jeevan Vedi orated on diagnosis. Dr Nitin M Nagarkar talked on surgical management.
Dr Shailesh Kothalkar gave lecture on medical management. This was followed by Question and Answer session conducted by Dr Vijay Bidkar. Vote of thanks was given by Dr Kiran Kumar Prathipati. The event was managed by Dr Sandeep Dabhekar, Assistant Professor of ENT Department.
More than 110 delegates had logged in for the webinar. Relevant topics and queries of participants were discussed.
