The race for becoming new Registrar of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has gained pace. Besides claiming on academic and experience fields, political lobbying have also started. More than 45 applications have been received by the University for the coveted post, which remained vacant since retirement of Dr Puranchandra Meshram in June last year.
Besides several university employees, teaching and non-teaching, outsiders have shown keen interest in the post.
Dr Anil Hirekhan, who is officiating Registrar and a senior most Deputy Registrar in the University had made efforts to get the position during interviews conducted earlier. Dr Neeraj Khati was selected by the committee. However, Dr Khati could not assume the new position as he did not get lien from the parent body.
The University appointments has not been purely on academic background or based on experience of the aspirants. Political pressures have worked in appointments on key positions for the last few years. Even nominations on various bodies were made under political influence, which is evident if names of these persons are checked.
The sources have stated that the Finance and Accounts Officer Raju Hiwase, Director of Students Welfare Dr Abhay Mudgal are also interested in the position.
The University has not been able to address several issues confronting the students and teachers. Decisions on several important issues are pending, particularly those with Disciplinary Action Committee. Former Vice-Chancellor Dr S P Kane also delayed decision on many of these issues, for the reasons best known to the University authorities and influencers of its functioning.
The interviews for the post of Registrar are scheduled for July 5 and 6, the sources have stated.
RTMNU had publicised advertisement for the port of Registrar, Deans and Director of Knowledge Centre (Library). The dates of interviews for other posts are not confirmed as yet.
