Just a day or two after a bridegroom was fined for not wearing mask along with some of the ‘Baratis’, the Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of Nagpur Municipal Corporation fined few marriage functions for violating COVID norms and recovered fine of Rs 50,000.
The fine was taken as more than 100 people were present at the marriage party. Social distancing was not maintained and other other COVID norms were broken.
The places include Ranjana Sabhagruha, Dhantoli Zone fron where a fine of Rs 20,000 was recovered.
Markande Sabhagruha, Hanuman Nagar Zone was slammed with a fine of Rs 10,000. Chamat Sabhagruha, Kharbi Chowk, where NDS from Nehru Nagar Zone recovered fine of Rs 10,000. Another marriage function was going on at Chichbhawan. Action by Dhantoli Zone was taken and they recovered fine of Rs 10,000.
It is worth mentioning here that people are fumed over NDS’s action. Many opined that the elected representatives are not bothered and only extracting money from the people’s pocket is the job left with the NMC.
A father who’s daughters marriage just concluded few days before, while talking to The Live Nagpur said, “I was ready with the cash. In case the NDS comes during my function.â€
He added that the host cannot count heads, during a function. When the city is having recovery rate above 98 per cent, relaxation of that level must be given. People have felt the burns of second wave, and are taking precautions accordingly. The NMC must be realistic and concentrate on its duty, instead of penalizing people for not wearing mask etc.
