Those who were waiting for the Covid vaccine have to wait for the next week. The vaccine was not available at any Vaccination Centre of Nagpur Municipal Corporation for the entire week.
Besides the government and local agencies, social organisations, National Service Scheme volunteers, social work and microbiology students have been working hard to generate awareness about vaccination. It is the only method to survive in the pandemic. It is also being campaigned that vaccination on large scale can prevent further transmission of the dreaded virus, which has consumed thousands of lives.
Microbiologists and doctors have been providing information about the virus and emphasising administration of vaccine. Even the Prime Minister Chief Ministers of various states, Health Ministers have been appealing for the immunization process. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced that the vaccine will be given free of cost to all the citizens.
Heavy rush of youngsters was seen when the vaccination for 18 plus citizens was started. However, shortage of vaccine dozes has dampened their spirits.
Has the situation arisen because of less production of the vaccine or those at the helm of affairs did not anticipate such heavy rush of youth for the vaccine, is the unanswered question.
The NMC authorities are also speechless, when asked about the next date of restarting the campaign.
Some private hospitals have been campaigning about availability of vaccine and are charging some amount for the jab. These private hospitals are allowed to buy the vaccine doses directly. People have started raising question about sincerity of the government machinery in administering the vaccine, as it is available with private hospitals and not with government centres.
