Just 16 days ahead of Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 Japan government imposed a state of emergency to contain Covid-19 infections.
The state of emergency has been declared from July 7 to August 22, a period covering the entire duration of the Olympics.
Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced the fourth state of emergency in the capital city Tokyo and surrounding cities to curb a rise in COVID-19 infections. A decision will soon be made on whether spectators will be allowed at Olympic venues, according to local media.
The Tokyo Olympics had to be postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year the event will begin from July 23 and run until August 8.
