Nagpur’s Ghazal maestro Shishir Parkhie has found place in the 30 famous ghazal singers in the UK based Asian Magazine DESIblitz. Parkhie is an internationally acclaimed ghazal singer and is among the few mentioned by the magazine, who are alive today.
The list of 30 ghazal singers have been publicized by the magazine recently. The prominent names include Kundan Lal sahgal, Begum Akhtar, Manna Dey, Hemant Kumar, Mukesh, talat Mehmood, Mohammad Rafi, Master Madan, Vitthal Rao, , Suraiya, Jagjit and Chitra Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Manhar Udhas, Pankaj Udhas, Anup Jalota, talat Aziz, Chandan Das, Penaaz Masani, Anita Singhvi, Ghazal Shrinivasand others besides Parkhie.
Most of the renowned ghazal singers named by the magazine have passed away and had regaled the audience.
Indian Ghazal singers have been enchanting the audience world over for decades. India is a home to a vast and diverse array of musical genes. One of these is Ghazal form of music. Indian singers are at the forefront of this magtial mould.
Talking to The Live Nagpur Shishir Parkhie opened his love for this form of music, which casts magic among the music lovers. Born in a music loving family, he paved his path into Ghazal singing. Despite having acquired BE degree from Nagpur, this music form engineered his life. Several albums of Parkhie are popular among the ghazal lovers in various countries. One of his prominent album is ‘Siyahat’ (2013), which was released through India’s oldest agency ‘Sa Re Ga Ma’. Among the tracks in ‘Bachpan ka haseen…’, the sensitive voice of Parkhie proves that he is a genuine artist. An older album ‘Once More Ghazals’ (2009), produced by T-Series, ‘Ham bhi guzar gaye…’ became very popular. The sorrow in his voice is eye-watering.
Shishir said “I belive music is God gifted to people. The talent within you take you ahead no matter. Music is something which comes naturally†.he was also placed among the top ten singers by The Top Tens, along with Jagjit Singh, Hariharan, Mehdi Hasan, Ghulam Ali, Talat Aziz and others.
Shishir was nominated for the prestigious GIMA awards in the Best Ghazal AQlbum category in 2012 for his album ‘Roomaniyat. He was among the list of renowned singers like Jagjit Singh. He was again nominated for his album ‘Siyahat’ along side Hariharan, Ustad Zakir Hussain and Shreya Ghoshal.
Shishir excels in various form of singing including bhajan (devotional sings), Hindi film songs etc. Besides Sa Re Ga Ma (HMV) and T-Serties, Times Music, Venus, Mystica Music and Bihan Music have released his albums.
Shishir’s mother Pratima Parkhie was famous singer. She had done Master’s degree in Fine Arts and Visharad in vocal music. She was a popular music teacher and ‘A’ grade artist of All India Radio. His father Sharad Parkhie was Chief Architect with SAIL, Bokaro. He too was a music composer. Born in a family of musicians Shishir started learning classical music since the age of six. He is also conversant with musical instruments harmonium and table. He has also performed as a child artist in the National Concert during International Year of Child. Starting as a solo public performance at the age of 15, he continues to perform at various levels from local to national to international.
