In a latest development on the Tekdi Road plan, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has asked Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to compensate shopkeepers having shops under fly-over. As shopkeepers seems reluctant to shift to alternate site, Gadkari said those shopkeepers not ready for rehabilitation at alternate space they should be given financial compensation by civic body.
On Friday, Gadkari reviewed the status of city projects that are funded through Central Road Fund (CRF) that falls under Ministry of Road Transport. During the meeting, Union Minister also rejected proposal mooted by city officials about tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) between NMC, Railway and Public Works Department (PWD) for re-development of Tekdi Road.
Gadkari said the project management about Tekdi Road flyover should be handed over to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL).
Gadkari observed that NMC has given the shops on 30-year lease of which ten years have been completed. Now, in case the shopkeepers are removed then they would have to be provided financial compensation or rehabilitate the mat alternate site.
Due to fly-over the modernisation and redevelopment of Nagpur Railway Station as no space is left for expansion.
For proper upgradation and beautification of site around railway station, it’s better NMC should hand over the planning aspect to Maha Metro. Also he directed officials to speed-up land acquisition for road widening of Tekdi Road.
Meanwhile, adiscussion on Broad Gauge Metro railway project was also held at the meeting. Metro officials informed that the project conceived by Gadkari has got backing form Kerala and they have started work on it while in Nagpur Region the project remains on paper.
Futala Parking Plaza: On the parking plaza at Futala, Gadkari directed officials to expedite the construction work. Parking plaza is being constructed on area of
6,000 sq.mtr and is part of Futala beautification project where in a colourful fountain is being installed.
The four storeyed parking plaza would be operated by Metro but Gadkari directed the agency to deposit land cost with NIT.
Agro Convention Center: Public Works Department (PWD)/was directed to take possession/of 14,250 sq.mtr land at Dabha/wherein a Agro Convention/Center is proposed to be constructed by Maha Metro, Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi
Vidyapeeth and PWD. PWD should also put up boundary wall and start road levelling work.
Kelibagh Road: On the widening of Kelibagh Road, officials briefed Gadkari on the progress so far. They said that of the 68 properties that were in way of widening, 58 buildings have been demolished and four to five dwellings near Model Mills are also being taken care off.
District Collector was directed to expedite process of land acquisition and release of compensation to property owners at the earliest. Collector assured that entire process will be completed within a three
months period.
