All pass, no results for the future

All pass, no results for the future

The results of Standard X, announced by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, on Friday, majority of the students will be happy. The overall pass percentage of 99.95 in an indication of the State Government to promote almost all the students to the next class.

Konkan regional, which has been considered one of the backward region, has produced 100 per cent results. Another backward region Nagpur, is p0laced last in the table of all nine regional boards. Even standing on the last rung of the ladder Nagpur’s result is 99.84 per cent.

The entire exercise of computing the results based on results of Standard IX and internal marks of Standard X, appears a futile, if the results are seen at a glance.

Without going through this cumbersome procedure of computing, the state could have promoted all the students to the next class.

The Divisional Board-wise results are –Pune – 99.96%, Nagpur – 99.84%,  Aurangabad – 99.96%, Mumbai – 99.96%, Kolhapur – 99.96%, Amravati – 99.98%, Nashik – 99.96%, Latur – 99.96% and Konkan – 100%.

Moreover, the sequence of also reversed. Highest number of students have passed in Grade-I and the lowest in Grade –III. Earlier the results were exactly in the reverse order.

Long back it was proposed that no students should be declared fail. They should be issued certificate of marks secured by them in each subject and promoted to the next class. The student and the parents would have realized the capability of the students. Many of them would have opted for any skill development courses and have would started earning. Now a large number of students, who have cleared Standard X or XII are not ready to work in agricultural fields, their family occupation. Many others would not work in two-wheeler or four-wheeler repair garages, or sit in grocery shops of their father.

Instead they would engage themselves in searching for various options on internet or indulge in unproductive or even antisocial activities. A large number of students from professional courses involved in crime is an indication.

The Government of India has started a large number of skill development programmes. A close scrutiny of the background of the students’ option for the courses and of the type of courses they choose, could bring need of the time. The policy makers can desired changes and offer the students the better options for their bright future.

Soon the results of Standard XII will be announced. The results are not expected to be much different from that of Standard XII. The Standard XII results would pose a different problem of admission to professional courses. The private higher education institutions are likely to exploit the students and parents.

The engineers and doctors, management experts prepared from this system would definitely exploit the society. The masses will lose faith in all the so called experts in different fields and the entire social structure will be disrupted.

The calamity created by nCorona 19 virus, is beyond the control of any government. However, deep thinking to overcome such calamities is its primary responsibility.
