Mumbai Police has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into alleged extortion case against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and seven others. A case against Singh has been registered with Mrine Drive Police Station and another with the Crime Branch.
Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale has issued an order for setting up the SIT comprising seven members. Deputy Commissioner of Police Nimit Goyal will head the SIT. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Deonar, M S Mujawar will be the investigating officer. The other members are Economic Offence Wing Inspector Pritam Parab, Anti-Extortion Cell Inspector Sachin Puranik, PI Vinay Ghorpade, API Mahendra Patil and API Viahsl Gaikwad.
Nagrale has ordered Mujawar to take all dopcuments in possession. Mrine Drive Police has registered cases against Singh and five others, following a complaint by a builder accusing demand of Rs 15 crore from him for withdrawing cases registered against him under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
