A tiger cub of around one-year-old was found dead on Tuesday evening in Aamghat jungle under Butibori Forest Range.
A shepherd from the village noticed decomposed body of the cub last evening and informed the Round Officer of Forest Department about the incident. A team of officers reached the spot while N G Chandewar, Asstt Conservator of Forest, examined the situation. An observation team formed as per SOP of National Tiger Conservation Authority inspected the spot on Wednesday morning while other team inspected nearby areas. Photographs from camera traps revealed that one tiger, tigress and two cubs were moving in that area.
The team members: Dr Bharat Singh Hada, Dy Conservator of Forest, Ajinkya Bhatkar, Member from NTCA, Avinash Londhe, Abhijeet Waykos, Chandewar and L V Thokal, RFO, Butibori, were present. It was observed that the body parts were intact. According to primary information, veterinarians found a bone broken at the neck and they suspect that the cub must have died 8/10 days back in a fight with wild animal. Dr Bilal Sayyad, Dr Khan and Dr Smarath performed post mortem and sent samples to forensic lab.
