Ambiguity in spelling eligibility for appointment of principals is likely to affect higher education. With no clarity about the qualification for appointment of principal in institutions imparting education in a particular stream has led teachers’ organisations to move the court.
In order to get clarification about appointment of Principal holding MBA degree, besides fulfilling other norms, even the RTM Nagpur University authorities appear to be confused. The question is whether MBA and M Com degrees are equivalent for such appointments.
Nagpur University Teachers’ Association (NUTA) is up in arms against this ambiguity. The issue was raised in the Academic Council. After a long discussion it was referred to Board of Studies in Commerce. The Board of Studies is not the authority to decide equivalence in qualification. The University authorities and even the State Government’s Higher Education Department claim that UGC norms are being followed. However, none of them have a document indicating clear direction relating to the issue.
While inviting suggestions by the UGC, a large number of suggestions were made. A person from the subjects of Arts, Commerce of Physical Education streams, cannot and should not be appointed principal of a science college.
The issue in RTMNU about appointment of M Com in Management College and MBA in commerce college, is being discussed. The teachers’ representatives in various university bodies are seeking clarification on the issue.
